The Gift of Paris

And last day of my annual sale!

(details below)

Cindy in 'Midnight in Paris!' Not really, but that's where a scene in the movie was filmed. I love that movie! The Pantheon is there in the background and my hotel just beyond that. An illustrious neighborhood!

Notre Dame under restoration

Paris was the last 10 days of my month in France and was very special, as I was blessed with a friend and then family to keep me company. I was able to have some different experiences than my usual Left Bank haunts, but I got to see some of them too...through the eyes of others. I was so glad to see Notre Dame with my own eyes. They are working hard to re-open for the Summer Olympics in 2024.

Chagall Ceiling at the Opera House

This was the first time I toured the Paris Opera House. I have wanted to see the ceiling by Marc Chagall for a long time. It was magnificent. I had seen some of his stained glass windows in Reims Cathedral many years ago. I love his use of color. One of my favorite quotes by an artist - and one I believe is true for my painting - is by Chagall: "If I paint from the heart, almost everything works; if from the head, almost nothing."

It had been years since I had visited the Cluny Museum to see its medieval art collection and the famous tapestries. The museum has undergone a massive renovation and is now reopened to the public. Well worth a visit! (Latin Quarter)

Lady and the Unicorn Tapestry

There was one "must do" on my list - to walk the Ile aux Cignes (Island of the Swans) and see one of the replicas of the Statue of Liberty. She is looking west toward our Statue of Liberty in New York harbor. At the other end of the promenade and park is the Eiffel Tower. It was a very peaceful place to walk with the Seine River on either side of the island. If you want a quiet walk in Paris, I recommend it.

The Pantheon

Finally, the Pantheon in the Latin Quarter (5th arr) is well worth a tour. My hotel was right next door. The imposing monument houses the tombs of France's historic citizens, such as Marie Curie, Voltaire, Victor Hugo and recently, Josephine Baker.

All in all, these last three newsletters have chronicled my trip from painting in Burgundy to exploring the Loire to furthering my acquaintance with Paris...rain or wind or sun...walking into memories. And what is that quote - or close to it - from "Midnight in Paris?" "Paris is most beautiful in the rain." Mais oui. Until next we meet, au revoir, Paris.

I haven't said anything about my art in my artist newsletter, have I?! I get carried away by Paris. Check out my Instagram and Facebook accounts (Cindy Bridgman Creates) as I have been posting about new work since my trip. I am happy with my progress. Stay tuned....

Winter Moonrise III 5:05 pm

I am also still participating in the Artists in Middleburg gallery show, GASP - "Great Art, Small Prices." My "Carpet of Lace" sold! I was able to replace it with "Winter Moonrise III" ($300) to accompany my "A Glimpse from Montmartre." All paintings in the show are under $500. The show closes on January 8.
